Jonathan Christie Prepares 2 Strategies To Face Chou Tien Chen

JAKARTA — Jonatan Christie is ready to perform optimally when he faces the fourth seed from Chinese Taipei Chou Tien Chen in the quarter-finals of the 2022 Badminton World Championships in Japan.

Jonathan got the top eight ticket after stopping Wang Tzu Wei on Thursday, August 25. Meanwhile, Chou Tien Chen escaped thanks to a victory over Lee Cheuk Yiu.

"Chou Tien Chen is a player who doesn't give up easily, today he played like that, tomorrow he will definitely go all out too. I have to focus and play optimally," said Jonatan in an official statement received by VOI, Thursday.

Jonathan Christie escaped after winning two straight games over opponents. As for Chou Tien Chen, he had to play a rubber game to beat the Hong Kong representatives.

"He always tries his best. So tomorrow will be a pretty tight match," said Jonathan.

"I played two games, but the timing wasn't much different. He's one hour and eleven minutes and I'm fifty-four minutes, maybe there's a slight advantage. But like I said, he's a player who doesn't give up easily," he added.

On paper, Jonathan is still ahead of Chou Tien Chen's 6-3 record. However, Jonathan lost three times in their previous four encounters.

Besides Jonathan, Indonesia also passed several representatives to the quarter-finals. Including the men's doubles Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan and Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto.
