Calling US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's Visit To Taiwan A Serious Violation, Defense Minister: China Cannot Be Tamed, We Are Not Afraid

JAKARTA - China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) is not afraid of its enemies, and is ready to fight for the country's sovereignty amid the United States' efforts to undermine stability in the Asia-Pacific Region, Chinese Defense Minister Wei Fenghe said on Tuesday.

"US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi's recent trip to Taiwan is a grave violation of China's sovereignty and territorial integrity," he stressed in a video message for the 10th Moscow International Security Conference.

"China cannot be tamed. We are not afraid of any evil power, as well as any enemy. We are determined and ready to fight with any enemy," Minister Wei continued.

Minister Wei further reminded that Taiwan is an integral part of China and Beijing considers all related issues as internal political matters, in which no other country has the right to interfere.

"Separatists advocating so-called Taiwan independence will surely break their necks. Attempts to intervene from outside are doomed to failure," he added.

Minister Wei recalled that China's position on the Taiwan issue had the support of most countries in the world. More than 170 countries recently issued relevant statements "in support of Beijing's desire to protect its sovereignty."

He pointed to the important role of member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), against the backdrop of Washington's destabilizing actions in the region.

"The PLA is conducting large-scale military exercises around Taiwan, which is a lawful and correct measure aimed at protecting our country's sovereignty," said Minister Wei.
