Mike Tyson Suggests McGregor Fight Weak Fighters On Comeback, UFC Legend: Risky, No Guarantees In Fight
JAKARTA - Conor McGregor has been urged to ignore the advice of boxing legend Mike Tyson.
The Irish UFC fighter is set to return to the octagon later this year. Now, he is back in training after the tibia and fibula injuries he sustained against Dustin Poirier last year.
Before his injury, he had two straight defeats.
Despite returning from a serious injury, McGregor wants to face the best opponents like Charles Oliveira or Kamara Usman.
Meanwhile, boxing legend 'Iron' Tyson feels that McGregor should have a different approach to his comeback with a focus on fighting weaker opponents.
This is what The Notorious needs to do to build his strength and experience level back after such a long absence.
"I really believe that after that defeat, you have to do a few fights to get your feet wet," Tyson said, quoted by Marca, Monday, June 6.
"Conor, I think you have to build your confidence and do what you do: win with passion," Tyson told Henry Cejudo on The Fight Card podcast.
In contrast, British UFC legend Mike Bisping disagrees with Tyson. He felt that someone like McGregor should always aim for the top rather than gradually building towards it.
"I understand what Mike (Tyson) is talking about over there," Bisping said in a video posted to his YouTube channel.

"However, the situation with McGregor right now - it's risky. If he's got a match-up fight, there's no guarantee in the fight. And if he loses to them, then it's even worse if he has to go in, say, against the champion, Charles Oliveira.
“If he loses to someone who is at the bottom rank, rank five, six, seven, something like that, now the conversation going on is very different.
"I think Conor should fight as hard as he can, in my humble opinion because we don't know how many are left."
