Acquisition Of Chelsea For IDR 78 Trillion Completed, Consortium Leader Todd Boehly Officially Replaces Roman Abramovich
JAKARTA - Chelsea has officially been sold to a consortium led by American investor Todd Boehly and private equity firm Clearlake Capital. The Blues were released at a price of 4.25 billion pounds or IDR 78 trillion.
To become the owner of the Blues, this consortium must compete with 11 other enthusiasts who want to become the new owners. However, they finally managed to come out victorious.
"We are honored to be the new owners of Chelsea Football Club. We are all 100 percent every minute of every game. Our vision as owners is clear: we want to make the fans proud," Boehly said.
The club was put up for sale in March before previous owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned over his ties to Russian president Vladimir Putin.
The sanctions were the result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Since then the club nicknamed the Blues must operate under a special government license which expires on May 31.
"Along with our commitment to developing a young squad and acquiring the best talent, our plan is to invest in the club for the long term and build on Chelsea's incredible history of success," said Boehly.
"I personally want to thank the ministers and officials in the British government, and the Premier League, for all their work in making this happen."
Abramovich bought Chelsea for £140 million (IDR 2.5 trillion) in 2003. Under his ownership, the club has won several major trophies, namely the Champions League trophy, five Premier League titles, five FA Cups, two Europa League trophies, and three trophies. EFL Cup.
During his tenure, the man from Russia has appointed 13 managers. Roman Abramovich has also spent more than £2 billion in the transfer market.
