Prevent Russian Tanks From Entering Kiev, Dam In Ukraine Demolished To Flood A Village

JAKARTA - About 50 houses in the village of Demydiv were partially submerged months after a dam was destroyed and the area was flooded to stop Russian troops from advancing on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.

The Ukrainian military blew up a dam on the Irpin river in February, sending overflowing water into the village and thousands of hectares around it, flooding homes and fields, but preventing Russian tanks from reaching the capital.

"Currently, about 50 houses in the village of Demydiv are still inundated by floods", wrote the regional governor, Oleksiy Kuleba, quoted by Antara, Saturday, May 28, evening.

"People understand the situation. We, in turn, are making every effort to resolve this issue."

The village, which has a thousand-year history, was partially evacuated after the start of the invasion, local media reported, but some residents have returned since Moscow shifted its offensive to eastern Ukraine.

Over the weekend, Russian troops pounded eastern cities in what the Kremlin called "special operations" to disarm Ukraine and protect it from fascists. Kyiv and Western countries regard this excuse as a false pretext for land grabbing.
