KSP: President Jokowi Consistently Provides Protection For Workers
JAKARTA - The Presidential Staff Office (KSP) said President Joko Widodo had instructed his staff to optimize labor protection. One of the goals is to prevent the heirs or the worker's family from poverty if the worker has an accident at work.
"President Joko Widodo consistently has a strong commitment to protecting workers and workers, both formal and informal," said Main Expert Staff of the Presidential Staff Office, Abraham Wirotomo, in a written statement received, Antara, Jakarta, Friday, May 20.
The government through the KSP, the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, and the Cabinet Secretariat continues to accelerate BPJS Ketenagakerjaan (insurance) participation for formal and informal workers.
By 2024, the government targets the number of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan membership to cover 74 percent for formal workers, and 25 percent for informal workers.
"To achieve this, the Presidential Instruction assigns the Governor and the Regent/Mayor to encourage all workers in their area to become participants in the Employment Social Security program," he said.
Meanwhile, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan of West Java Province has paid claims worth IDR 2.4 trillion. The payments were made for 210,805 claims, which were filed from January to April 2022.
One of the beneficiaries' families or heirs is Ida Farida. Thanks to her husband's BPJS Ketenagakerjaan membership, Kuswandiana, since 1992, Ida has received a claim payment of around IDR 581 million.
