Van Halen Almost Resurrected With Jason Newsted And Joe Satriani

JAKARTA - Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted told The Palm Beach Post in a recent interview he almost joined the all-star vVn Halen tribute project six months ago.

Van Halen drummer Alex has chosen Joe Satriani to play guitar, Newsted said, and the two are looking for a bass player for a possible Van Halen tour.

Newsted said he agreed to go to California for a jam session with the two great musicians. However, he eventually backed off after realizing that it was not right against Van Halen's legacy.

"How could that be?" she says. "No one can beat him (Van Halen), so how do you show it honorably? I don't want it to be seen as money-grabbing. And then it all fails," Newsted said, quoted from Blabbermouth, Sunday, April 17.

Last June, Eddie Van Halen's son Wolfgang told SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk" that it was the right thing to do. But, not for now.

"It's not in the plans anytime soon, because there are a lot of moving parts that you have to control to make it happen. But I think it has to happen. Of course," he said.

Wolfgang joined his father in Van Halen on the band's 2007 reunion tour with vocalist David Lee Roth. He replaced Michael Anthony.

Eddie died on October 6, 2020, at the age of 65 from cancer.
