Intel Forced To Delay Graphics Chip Launch Because Global Chip Shortage Still Occurs
JAKARTA - Intel Corp said that it has delayed the launch of standalone graphics chips for desktops to the second quarter. Meanwhile, laptops will be launched in the first quarter as originally planned.
The announcement came on Thursday against a backdrop of ongoing global chip shortages and global supply chain problems, as chipmakers struggle to meet unprecedented demand.
The company's Arc graphics chip, which helps video games and other content look more realistic, will compete with chips from rivals such as Nvidia Corp and Advanced Micro Devices Inc (AMD).
Intel said in August last year that graphics chips for PCs would arrive in the first quarter of 2022. But those predictions had to be revised due to the ongoing global shortage of chips.

Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) introduced notebooks with Intel Arc graphics for sale in the first quarter of 2022, the company said, ahead of its annual investor meeting on Thursday.
"Intel will ship additional cards for desktops in the second quarter and workstations in the third quarter," said a source at Intel as quoted by Reuters.
But there's really no guarantee that the graphics card in question can actually show up on time if the global chip shortage doesn't subside at all.
