Draw With Osasuna Makes Sevilla Fail To Cut The Points Gap With Real Madrid
JAKARTA – Sevilla only brought home one point when they visited Osasuna's headquarters in the continuation week of La Liga this season. A 0-0 draw closed the match which took place at El Sadar on Sunday, February 6.
This makes Sevilla fail to cut the gap in numbers with the top standings Real Madrid. Los Nervionenses now collect 47 points in second place standings or three points adrift of Los Blancos.
Sevilla's draw actually provided an opportunity for Madrid to widen the distance. They can lead by six points if they win over Granada in tonight's match.
Both Sevilla and Osasuna created few chances before the break. Jon Moncayola's kick almost shook Sevilla's net if goalkeeper Yassine Bounou had not brushed it off.
Sevilla then had a golden opportunity to win this match in extra time. Unfortunately, a penalty awarded by referee Valentin Pizarro failed to change the scoreboard.
Host goalkeeper Sergio Herrera appeared to be a savior for his team. He successfully saved Ivan Rakitic's shot to ensure both teams went home with one point each.
"We deserved the three points," said Sevilla coach Julen Lopetegui.
