1,2000 Brimob Nusantara Personnel Alerted To Secure Yalimo's Re-vote

JAYAPURA - A total of 12 company-level units (SSK) or 1,200 Brimob Nusantara personnel are currently on alert to secure the re-election (PSU) scheduled for Wednesday, January 26.

Papuan Police Chief, Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri said many Brimob were on standby to provide a sense of security to the people in the area.

Six Brimob Nusantara SSKs have been alerted and distributed in the districts of Yalimo District, and six SSKs have been alerted in Arso, Keerom District, and in Wamena, Jayawijaya District.

One of these SSKs, namely those from the Papua Regional Police, will carry out patrols to areas in the Yalimo Regency area.

"Hopefully, security in the area will remain conducive until the election of the pair of candidates is chosen", Inspector General Fakhiri hoped, quoted by Antara on Friday, January 21.

The Papuan Regional Police Chief hopes that the community will later cast their voices and elect candidates for regional leaders who will bring prosperity to the entire community.

"The community is also expected not to be easily provoked by issues and continue to help maintain security in the region until the elected regents and deputy regents are sworn in", continued the Papua Police Chief.

Meanwhile, Military District Commander 1702 Jayawijaya, Lt. Col. Inf. Arif Budi Situmeang, separately stated that 540 soldiers were on standby to secure the Yalimo re-election (PSU).

Some of the hundreds of soldiers are already in Elelim, the capital of Yalimo Regency, while others are on standby in Wamena, added Lieutenant Colonel Inf Situmeang.

PSU Yalimo was followed by two pairs of candidates for regent and deputy regent, namely candidate pair 01 Lakius Peyon-Nahum Mabel and candidate pair 02, namely Nahor Nekwek-John Wilil.
