Floods In Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan Continue To Rise Up To 2 Meters

MARTAPURA - The flood that occurred in Pengaron, Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan (Kalsel) continues to rise to two meters.

"The joint SAR team continues to evacuate residents whose houses have been flooded until this afternoon," said Commander of Kodim 1006/Banjar Lt. Col. Inf. Imam Muchtarom in Martapura, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, January 12.

Floods in Pengaron District, Banjar Regency have occurred since Tuesday, January 11, after heavy rains all day yesterday. The water level in the Riam Kiwa River continues to rise and the villages it crosses are submerged.

Apart from Pengaron, a number of areas in Banjar Regency were also severely affected by flooding with varying water levels, including Sungai Pinang District, Telaga Bauntung District, and Simpang Empat District.

Imam appealed to residents whose houses were submerged to be evacuated to avoid unwanted things, including casualties.

If still staying at home, he reminded to be careful of the threat of higher flooding at any time.

"If you see that the weather is still raining, people should be vigilant. Prioritize personal safety over property," he said.

The flood alert team from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Banjar Regency assisted by the National Armed Forces (TNI)-National Police (Polri) and volunteers also continued to distribute food logistics for residents who were still at home, including for emergency kitchen needs in refugee camps.
