Nominated, Lee Jung Jae Confirms Not Attending The 2022 Golden Globes

JAKARTA - Actor Lee Jung Jae received a nomination at the 2022 Golden Globes award for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Drama category. Thanks to his role in the Squid Game, his name went into international awards.

Lee Jung Jae said he was happy because his name was included in the nomination but he certainly did not attend the event.

"He (Lee Jung Jae) was grateful to get a nomination in the Best Actor category at the Golden Globes but he decided not to come to the top event," said Lee Jung Jae's agency, Artist Company, as reported by Soompi on Wednesday, January 5.

“He knows Netflix is not participating in the Golden Globes as the rest of the world is reporting. He also has other factors such as the COVID-19 situation and quarantine provisions," the agency said.

In recent years, the Golden Globes have come under fire for alleged corruption and a lack of diversity among committee members. As a result, several studio houses chose to boycott the event.

Studio houses such as Netflix, Amazon, and Warner Media announced they were not participating with the Golden Globes as long as the matter was not resolved. In fact, the NBC television channel that broadcasts the event has also withdrawn from this year's event.

Lee Jung Jae also canceled his attendance at the Critics Choice Awards which was held in conjunction with the Golden Globes. He cited the COVID-19 situation as the main reason.

Lee Jung Jae also visited the United States to celebrate the success of the Squid Game. In November 2021, he attended the LACMA and Gotham Awards with the Squid Game cast.
