Her Personal Account Is Permanently Blocked, US Congressman Marjorie Taylor Greene: Twitter Is America's Enemy
JAKARTA - Twitter Inc., on Sunday said it was permanently banning the personal account of United States Republican politician Marjorie Taylor Greene, for tweets that repeatedly violated social media's misinformation policy about COVID-19.
The United States Congressman from Georgia was the first member of Congress to have a Twitter account permanently blocked.
Twitter had previously issued a short-term suspension for Greene's account, @mtgreenee, over tweets about COVID that it called 'misleading'. Previously, at least two Republican members of the House of Representatives had received temporary suspensions on Twitter, namely Jim Banks and Barry Moore.
"Twitter is the enemy of America and cannot handle the truth," Greene said in a statement on messaging app Telegram citing Reuters on January 3, adding that social media platforms cannot stop the truth from spreading far and wide. Big Tech can't stop it.
Unlike the personal account, congressman Greene's official account, @ReptMTG, remain active on Twitter and has 390,000 followers. Meanwhile, her personal account has around 465,000 followers on her blocked personal account.
Previously, Greene has come under fire for comments about the pandemic. Last June, she apologized after comparing the COVID-19 mask and vaccination requirements to the Holocaust that killed 6 million Jews.
