Truck Driver Victims Of Mount Merapi Cold Lava Flood Finally Found

MAGELANG - The driver of the sand truck, which was reported missing after the vehicle he was driving was hit by the cold lava of Mount Merapi in the Magelang Regency, Central Java a week ago, was finally found.

Head of the Semarang Search and Rescue Office, Heru Suhartanto, in a press release in Semarang, Tuesday, said the victim, Hendri Susanto (27), a resident of Bergas, Semarang Regency, was found about 500 meters from the first missing location.

He explained that joint officers used heavy equipment in the search effort.

"The victim was found dead in a pile of cold lava avalanche material (rain lava) with a depth of about two to three meters", he said, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, December 7.

The victim's body was then evacuated to Muntilan Hospital, Magelang Regency, for further treatment.

Heru said the search and rescue operation was officially closed with the discovery of the victim's body.

Hendri Susanto was reported missing after the truck he was driving was hit by cold lava while crossing the Bebeng River. The victim, who had gotten out of the truck, was swept away by a cold lava flow.
