Airbag Problem, Tesla Withdraws 7,600 Units Of S And X Models 2021

JAKARTA - Electric vehicle manufacturer from the United States (US), Tesla will recall 7,600 units of Model S and Model X cars produced in 2021. The recall was carried out after a problem with the airbags was found.

The recall comes as an investigation from a supplier in Mexico revealed that the packaging process used on the cover could have caused the airbag to get stuck in the hatch of the cover when it was supposed to inflate in an accident.

This has the potential and can also cause tears in the airbag cushion fabric, making it ineffective when in use.

The recall notice issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) notes that the supplier began producing the defective airbag box cover on June 29, 2021, and will continue to produce it until September 8, 2021.

As a precaution, Tesla has announced that it will be recalling 2021 Model S vehicles manufactured between June 21, 2021, and September 29, 2021, as well as Model X 2021 built between September 3, 2021, and September 23, 2021.

Tesla will fix this issue simply by replacing the driver airbags on all affected vehicles. This replacement features a new design that introduces reinforcement in the cushioning fabric where tearing can occur.

All Tesla dealers and service centers have been notified of the recall on or before November 10, while owners will be notified by mail on January 7, 2022.
