Luhut Asks Indonesian Entrepreneurs To Enter Bali To Invest In Charging Infrastructure For Electric Cars And Motorcycles

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, said the government would turn Bali into an environmentally friendly island in Indonesia. Luhut also invited entrepreneurs to invest in providing infrastructure for charging stations for electric vehicles.

"Then we need a massive investment for charging infrastructure. It's like in Bali, I think it's a new business too. I ask friends (entrepreneurs) to enter Bali. Because of Bali, we hope that later we will accelerate the use of electric cars and motorbikes in Bali", he said in a virtual discussion, Wednesday, November 16.

Furthermore, Luhut said that in the next few years, the use of cars and motorcycles with fuel or fossil fuels in Bali will be reduced. This is in line with the government's target to make Bali an environmentally friendly island.

"Maybe in 3-4 years we have reduced the use of fossils there. So that Bali can become one of the green islands", he said.

According to Luhut, one of the concrete steps taken by the government to realize the plan is to increase the number of electric vehicles in Bali. For example, by providing motorbikes and electric cars for the G20 Summit in Bali in 2022.

"Later on at the G20, we will prepare all motorcycles, namely electric motorcycles with the infrastructure preparation we are currently preparing. Including the official car there we will use an EV (electric vehicle) later", he said.

Luhut said that the use of motorcycles and electric cars is part of Indonesia's commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 29 percent with its own efforts and 40 percent with international assistance. This commitment is also by the Paris Agreement in the National Determined Contribution (NDC) document.

"I think Indonesia's commitment to reducing emissions is also very good. At the COP26 yesterday in Glasgow, our position was also clear. There was also an ecosystem for the development of electric cars", he said.
