SURABAYA - The Tanjung Perak Port Police has again named a suspect in a riot during an emergency PPKM control operation on Jalan Bhineka Raya, Suropati border and Bulak Banteng Baru last weekend.

"There are two new suspects based on the results of the development of the investigation team," said Tanjung Perak Port Police Chief AKBP Ganis Setyaningrum in Surabaya, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, July 13.

The suspect has the initials F, a resident of Jalan Kunti Surabaya who is suspected of being a provocateur through uploads on social media, then a man with the initials H, a resident of Bangkalan Regency who is suspected of destroying a police car.

"The police car was damaged in a way that broke the rear glass using a brick," continued AKBP Ganis.

To the police, the two perpetrators admitted that they happened to be in Bulak Banteng when joint officers from the police, TNI, and Satpol PP, and Linmas from Kenjeran District were carrying out an operation to justify the emergency PPKM curfew.

"One of the perpetrators said that his sister was detained by a Satpol PP officer for not wearing a mask. So, he tried to defend his sister, then damaged the police car," said the police chief.

"This other perpetrator intentionally creates content on social media that spreads anti-provocations against PPKM officers," he said.

Previously, not long after the riot, the police immediately arrested the coffee shop owner with the initials E for fighting the officers when they were about to take action after it was found that his shop was still open during night operating hours.

In total, three perpetrators of the riots in Bulak Banteng Surabaya have been arrested.

The police chief confirmed that the police are still continuing to develop investigations into cases of riots and attacks on PPKM officers to arrest other perpetrators.

"I urge the public to comply with the emergency PPKM rules. This judicial operation is of course for the safety and health of the community. The goal is to break the chain of the spread of the coronavirus or COVID-19," said the Police Chief.
