RCS, Messaging Protocol To Be Adopted By Apple

JAKARTA Apple recently announced that the iPhone will support next year'sRich Communication Services (RCS) protocol. Shocking news as well as fun.

RCS will be included in the iPhone software update, namely iOS 18. With the RCS, Apple users can now exchange messages with Android device users without the need for credit.

There are several things that make SMS look so underdeveloped when compared to RCS. When using SMS, users will not know if their messages have arrived and have been read.

This will not happen with the RCS. Users can see a receipt when the message is read and a typing indicator bonus at the top of the screen. If you don't know yet, the typing indicator is a notification that the interlocutor is typing.

The most important part of the RCS is the ability to exchange messages using cellular data and Wi-Fi. Users can also send any media with high quality, another advantage that RCS has because SMS will switch to MMS when sending media.

Unfortunately, RCS does not yet have pesanend-to-end encryption like iMessage. However, Apple has promised that it will cooperate with GSMA, the RCS provider, in improving protocol security.

One thing to note from the RCS is the color of the bubble. Bubble color debate, the big difference between iMessage and SMS, will still occur in RCS because the green bubble color will still be used.

This is actually not a big deal if users are not very sensitive to this problem. Despite its color, Apple users need to be happy because the RCS protocol will soon co-exist with iMessage.
