CEO Sam Altman Fired OpenAI Board Of Directors, Greg Brockman Withdraws From The Company

JAKARTA OpenAI carried out an unexpected overhaul and announced that CEO Sam Altman was fired. Through this dismissal, Sam had to leave the company immediately.

Sam and Greg Brockman, President of OpenAI, said they were surprised and saddened by the decisions of the board of directors. Through his upload on X, Brockman explained the sequence of events that occurred before OpenAI reported the dismissal of Altman.

Initially, the Chief Scientist and co-founder of OpenAI Ilya Sutskever invited Altman to the meeting on Friday, November 17. During the meeting, all boards of directors were present except Brockman.

Sam received a message from Ilya asking to speak on Friday afternoon. Sam joined Google Meet and all the board members, except Greg, were there. Ilya told Sam that she was fired and the news would be announced soon," Brockman wrote through his account.

Brockman admitted that he did not know the plan for this dismissal before. He was only given news of Altman's dismissal after Sutskever invited him to a separate Google Meet conference.

Members of the council told Brockman they would not fire him. According to them, Brockman's role is very important to the company, but Brockman, who was already surprised by the actions of the board of directors, decided to resign from the company.

Brockman and Altman said OpenAI Mira Murati's management and Technical Director team only learned about this news after Altman was removed from his position. Despite this situation, Brockman said he was happy with the public's response.

"The amount of support given is really fun, thank you, but please don't waste time worrying. We'll be fine. Bigger things will come soon," Brockman explained.

Meanwhile, Altman said his dismissal was a very strange experience. Although this dismissal is not good news, Altman admits that he is happy to have worked at OpenAI with talented people.

I love my time at OpenAI. This is very transformative to me personally and hopefully the world will change a little. Most importantly, I love working with talented people like that," wrote Altman.
