JAKARTA - Online fraud cases spread by telephone or short message services (SMS) are still rampant in Indonesia. The Ministry of Communications and Informatics through the Directorate General of Post and Information Administration (Ditjen PPI) continues to take action against fraud by blocking the mobile number.
For blocking based on complaints, requests can be made by attaching an SMS screenshot or recorded conversations that are indicated to be fraudulent. Furthermore, the report will be verified by the officer to then block it by the cellular operator if proven.
Wayan Toni Supriyanto, Director General of PPI Kominfo revealed, from August to mid-November 2023, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics has received 958 reports of cases of misuse of telephone and SMS for online fraud, through the Complaint Nomor.id website.
"We received the report through the Complaint Nomor.id website, and blocking efforts have been made against all reported cellular numbers," Wayan said at a press conference on Anticipation of Online Fraud via Complaint Number, on Wednesday, November 15.
