Indonesia and Japan Continue Cooperation in the Technology Sector

JAKARTA - The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Communication and Information, has agreed to continue cooperation with Japan in the fields of information and communication technology (ICT), broadcasting and postal services.

Not only that, both Indonesia and Japan will also explore opportunities to implement cooperation in the development of digital sectors such as 5G, artificial intelligence (AI) and big data.

The signing of this Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) was carried out by the Deputy Minister of Communication and Information Nezar Patria and the Japanese Minister of Parliament, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), Komori Taku.

Through this MoC update, the two countries will collaborate in the formation of regulations and policies, increase capacity through training and technical assistance, support cooperation from related institutions and organizations, as well as exchange knowledge and experience.

"Currently the Indonesian government is developing an Electronic Based Government System (SPBE) which may be able to collaborate with Japan, including the construction of a data center," said Nezar when visiting Tokyo, Japan, as reported by his official broadcast.

Apart from that, the Deputy Minister of Communication and Information is also exploring opportunities for cooperation in the digital sector and opening up investment opportunities for Japanese companies in Indonesia.

"Indonesia is currently exploring cooperation with Japan regarding the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA). "And we are open to investment opportunities in the digital technology sector," he said

According to the Deputy Minister of Communication and Information, Deputy MIC Japan Komri Taku welcomed Indonesia's proposal regarding the development of digital sector cooperation, especially with regard to the use of 5G technology, AI and data.

"Especially regarding standards and implementation of policies on AI that can increase the use of AI, and prevent the risks posed by AI," said Deputy Minister Nezar Patria.

Finally, Deputy Minister Nezar Patria also appreciated the investment plans of several Japanese technology companies.
