JAKARTA - The Moderate Democrats in the United States House of Representatives have set up a working group on artificial intelligence (AI) with the aim of addressing the issue of what limits, if any, should be placed on this technology.

The New Democratic Coalition announced the formation of the group on Tuesday, August 15, stating that it will work with the Joe Biden administration, companies, and other lawmakers to develop "sensible, cross-party policies to address these emerging technologies."

Although artificial intelligence has been in use for a number of years, it gained popularity earlier this year with the advent of ChatGPT because of generative AI's ability to use data to create human-looking writing. The group's co-chairs are Representatives Don Beyer of Virginia, Jeff Jackson of North Carolina, Sara Jacobs of California, Susie Lee of Nevada, and Haley Stevens of Michigan.

In July, the White House announced that AI companies, including OpenAI, Alphabet, and Meta Platforms, had made voluntary commitments to implement measures such as watermarking AI-generated content to help make this technology more accessible. safe.

In the Senate, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said last month that legislators would hear developers, executives and experts later this year about possible legislative protections.
