JAKARTA - The federal jury in Waco, Texas, ruled that Google's parent Alphabet violated the patent rights of a software developer related to remote streaming technology and had to pay compensation of US$338.7 million (Rp5 trillion).

According to the lawsuit, Google met with Touchstream to discuss this technology in December 2011, but expressed its interest two months later. Google then introduced the Chromecast media-streaming device in 2013.

Touchstream states that Google's Chromecast imitates its innovations and violates its three patents. They also stated that their patents had been violated by Google's Home and Nest smart speaker devices, as well as third-party television and speakers with Chromecast capabilities.

Google denies violating Touchstream's rights and argues that the patents are invalid.

Touchstream has also filed similar complaints against cable service providers Comcast, Charter, and Altice in Texas earlier this year. The cases are still in the process of being resolved.
