The Arrogance Of The Boss Of Red Bull Racing, Waiting For The Resistance From Mercedes In F1 2024

JAKARTA - Red Bull Racing dominates Formula One (F1) 2023 with its mainstay riders Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. In fact, during this season there are still a few draws left, the constructor title is already in hand.

Teams like Ferrari and Mercedes were made helpless with the brilliant performance of the RB19 "land jet" driven by Verstappen and Perez.

Red Bull's principal team, Christian Horner, said it was looking forward to fierce competition with its toughest rivals, the Mercedes team in Formula 1 season 2024.

"For me, sport is about competition. It's great to have competition. There must be respect, but sports cannot be called sports without competition," Horner said, quoted from the official website of Formula 1 via Antara, Friday.

Red Bull has won four titles in a row under Horner from 2010 to 2013. After that, the team lost its crown from Mercedes under the leadership of Toto Wolff in 2014.

The team nicknamed the Silver Arrows then won eight constructors' titles in a row from 2014 to 2021 until Red Bull bounced back in 2022.

Horner's Red Bull squad adapted well to new technical regulations and reclaimed the title in 2022 and has since ensured a second consecutive constructor title as well as its sixth overall title by 2023.

"Obviously, we haven't seen him (Wolf) in recent years, but I'm sure he's been planning something. I'm sure they have something to do, and they are a great team, they are a big team, they have great riders, they will try to fight back," Horner said.

He continued, seven seasons without a title and always being behind Mercedes was a difficult time for the team. However, Horner said it was that difficult feeling that made the team stronger and confident in breaking Mercedes' dominance.

It hurts when you lose. If you don't get sick, you don't have to do this so far. We had a long time, six to seven difficult seasons, but we never lost our eyes on what we wanted, and we were the team that broke the dominance (Mercedes)," Horner said.

And everything goes in a cycle, at some point someone will beat us. Now, whether it's Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren, Aston Martin or anyone else, we don't know, but all we can control is what we do. So, that's all we focus on ourselves."
