Barcelona Extends Xavi's Contract Until 2025

JAKARTA Barcelona officially announced the extension of the Xavi Hernandez counter as coach. He signed a new contract until June 2025.

The 43-year-old coach's old contract is known to expire in June 2024. Since the beginning of the 2023-2024 season, Barca has been trying to defend Xavi. Finally, the agreement was reached on Saturday, September 23, early in the morning WIB.

"FC Barcelona and coach Xavi Hernandez have reached an agreement to extend their contracts until June 20, 2025 with an option of one additional year," Barcelona said on their official website.

Xavi said he was happy with his new contract in the Blaugrana. Because, when he first arrived at Camp Nou, the club's situation was experiencing difficulties, both from performance on the green and economic fields.

We arrived at a difficult time, with difficult circumstances. The sports department and team did a very good job. Two important titles were won last year, but we are still in the process. In the first year, we have shown positive things and this season, we have to be decisive," he said.

Xavi returned to the club that made his name in November 2021, and he has led the team to 60 wins, 17 draws and 19 defeats to 96 matches. Last season, he was able to bring Barca to win La Liga titles and the Spanish Super Cup despite being eliminated early in the Champions League.

This season, they are in their best form, winning five of six games in all competitions. The defending La Liga champions opened the campaign with a goalless draw against Getafe before recording four straight wins over Cadiz, Villarreal, Osasuna and Real Betis, with a total of 13 points putting them in second place in the standings.

Xavi Hernandez started his managerial career at Qatari club Al-Sadd in 2019 after completing his career as a player at the club. He spent more than two years as manager before returning to Barcelona replacing Ronald Koeman.
