Hong Kong Open 2023: Anthony Ginting Follows Jonatan Christie to the Quarter Finals

JAKARTA – Anthony Sinisuka Ginting has qualified for the quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Open 2023. He won over Malaysia's representative, Leong Jun Hao, at the Hong Kong Coliseum, Thursday (14/9).

The second seed kept his dream alive by winning in two straight games 21-14 and 21-11 to catch up with his National Pelatnas colleague, Jonatan Christie.

The owner of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics bronze medal will next meet Taiwanese men's singles, Su Li Yang, who won over Denmark's representative, Anders Antonsen.

Ginting and Yang will both be blind in their clash next Friday. The reason is, the two of them have never faced each other before.

Apart from Ginting, the mixed doubles ticket for Indonesia was also successfully added to the quarter-finals by Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari. The pair stopped Chiu Hsiang Chieh/Lin Xiao Min.

For this sector, Indonesia previously lost the pair Adnan Maulana/Nita Violina Marwah. They lost to the German representatives, Mark Lamsfuss/Isabel Lohau.

The success of Ginting and Rinov/Pitha means that Indonesia has placed a total of seven representatives in the quarter-finals.

Five other representatives who had previously stepped in were the men's doubles duo Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin and Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan.

As well as women's doubles Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti, women's singles Gregoria Mariska Tunjung and men's singles Jonatan Christie.
