Manchester United Failed to Maintain Position 3 in the Standings after Being Detained by Tottenham, Turns Out This Is the Problem

JAKARTA - Manchester United (MU) drew against Tottenham Hotspur in Week 33 of the English Premier League 2022/2023. The two teams had to settle for a 2-2 score when they played at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, Friday morning WIB.

This draw has made Manchester United drop to fourth place in the standings with a score of 60 points from 31 matches. They were displaced by Newcastle United who got an additional three points after a 4-1 win over Everton.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur returned to fifth place in the standings with 54 points from 33 matches, having previously dropped to seventh.

In this match, Manchester United actually won first through Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford. However, Tottenham Hotspur were able to equalize thanks to goals from Pedro Porro and Son Heung-min.

In this match, Manchester United actually had a slight advantage in possession with 60 percent and released 17 kicks, 8 of which were on target.

However, according to Red Devils midfielder, Christian Eriksen, his team had no control over the opponent in this match.

"I think we just have a little bit of gas," he told BT Sport. "That is our problem. I think (like) it was for some games, where we were sharp and (didn't) defend it."

"I think we lost a little bit of energy, a little bit of control and they got some trust and vice versa. That's how it usually is. When you are 2-0 down anything can change quickly," Eriksen continued.

The former Tottenham player admitted that MU did not have the control to finish off his opponent. In fact, the visitors provided an opportunity for Ryan Mason's troops to score the first goal.

"It gives [them] confidence," Eriksen said.

Furthermore, Manchester United will host Aston Villa in Week 34 of the Premier League, Sunday, April 30. Meanwhile, Tottenham will travel to Liverpool headquarters, on the same day.
