139 Passengers And Crew Of Cruise Ships Experienced Implementation Problems As Central Ships Sailed

JAKARTA - More than 100 passengers and crew fell ill while sailing for three weeks, on a 107-night cruise with MS Queen Victoria cruise ship from the Cunard Cruise Line, according to a report from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

According to the report, 123 passengers and 16 cruise crew members have reported symptoms of gastrointestinal which include diarrhea and vomiting, quoted from CNN on February 1.

The shipping company has stepped up procedures for cleaning and disinfection as well as isolating sick passengers and crew, according to the report, while the cause of the disease is not yet known.

The cruise ship MS Queen Victoria itself is on a 107-night voyage starting in Southampton, England, on January 11. A total of 1,824 passengers and 967 crew were on board.

The cruise section as the disease comes amid a cruise from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on January 22 with stops in Aruba, Guatemala, Cabo San Lucas, San Francisco and Hawaii, ending on February 12, according to the Cunard website.

"Cunard confirmed that a small number of guests had reported symptoms of gastrointestinal disease on Queen Victoria's ship. They immediately activated enhanced health and safety protocols to ensure the well-being of all guests and crew on board. The steps taken were effective," Cunard told CNN.

Citing NBC News, medical staff on cruise ships under US jurisdiction are required to report cases of digestive disease to the Ship Sanitation Program when at least two percent of people inside are infected with a disease.
