SENTANI - Jayapura Regency Government (Pemkab) is seriously treating patients infected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) at 22 local health centers. Until now, the number of HIV/AIDS in Jayapura Regency was recorded at 4,682 people. Secretary of the Jayapura District Health Office Edward Sihotang said, his party is currently serious in handling HIV/AIDS cases with examinations carried out at the puskesmas. According to Sihotang, by opening the widestance of HIV/AIDS examinations, the cases are high, so the number of HIV/AIDS in Jayapura Regency is recorded at 4,682 people. He added that pregnant women in Jayapura Regency are required to screen HIV/AIDS at the puskesmas before carrying out further health checks during their pregnancy. "We apply it because health checks for pregnant women are included in the SPM and that is the right of the community to be obtained, when they are infected, our job is to treat them as well as possible so that the baby they carry can be HIV/AIDS negative at birth," he said.
