PBNU Chairman: Boycott Of Pro-Israel Products Is Important To Achieve Political Attention

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board Yahya Cholil Staquf assessed that the product boycott movement that is affiliated or supporting Israel is important in order to achieve political attention.

"The boycott movement is quite important to get political attention and I think it has now been felt," said Gus Yahya as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, November 21.

This boycott movement of Israel's affiliated products is an effort by the community, especially in Indonesia, in opposing Israeli aggression against people in Gaza, Palestine.

In fact, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) issued Fatwa Number 83 of 2023 concerning the Law of Support Against the Palestinian Struggle some time ago.

Gus Yahya said the product boycott movement was indeed an important step. However, this is not enough.

According to him, a more concrete solution is needed to resolve the humanitarian tragedy that occurred in Palestine, mainly calling for the Israeli army's aggression to be stopped immediately.

"This is important to get political attention, but we have to think of a way out that makes sense and is positive. Not just expectations, but really workable solutions that can be done," he said.

In fact, he said, a product boycott occurred between supporters of the Palestinian struggle and supporters of Israeli aggression. In the end, this movement was reciprocal and at the same time the Israeli army's aggression against Palestine continued.

"Before all that, attacks must be stopped immediately. We will convey this continuously. Not only us, but all parties around the world," he said.
