Case Of Deadly Accident, Only 9 Of The 36 Railway Crossings In Lumajang Have A Doorstop

LUMAJANG - The attention of the Lumajang Regency Government, East Java, to railroad crossings (KA) is questionable. The reason is, there are only nine of the 36 train crossings with windows in the local area.

"There are 36 level crossings in Lumajang Regency, but only 9. Meanwhile, the remaining 27 crossings do not have a doorstop, and there are no guards," said Public Relations Manager of PT KAI DAOP 9 Jember, Anwar Yuli Prastyo, confirmed, Tuesday, November 21.

Based on the Regulation of the Ministry of Transportation (Kepmenhub) Number 94 of 2018, Anwar continued, the level crossing without a gate affects the authority of the blood government. When there was an accident on Sunday night, he said, PT KAI together with the Director General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation and the Lumajang Regency Transportation Service had reviewed the location of the incident.

"After the review, PT KAI, the Director General of Railways and the Lumajang Transportation Agency agreed to install the crossing gate," he said.

Anwar appealed to the public to be careful when crossing railroad crossings, especially level crossings without latches. This is for the sake of caution so that unwanted things do not happen.

"We urge the public of every road user who crosses not to cross directly, so they can stop first. So they can look right and left to pay attention to the passing train," he said.

PT KAI invites all stakeholders who have authority related to level crossings to collaborate, to be more concerned about safety. For road users who cross the railroad crossing, it is also hoped that they will be more careful and pay attention to traffic signs.

"Actually, the doorstops and officers are just aids. When people want to be orderly, they want to obey the available signs, so people can cross railroad crossings safely," he said.
