JAKARTA - The International Court (ICJ) received 15 written lawsuits regarding the legal consequences of Israel's policies and practices in its occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem.

As reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Thursday, November 16, in a statement quoted by the official Palestinian news agency Wafa, ICJ revealed that 14 written lawsuits had been submitted until the deadline of October 25, 2023.

The lawsuits came from Indonesia, Jordan, Qatar, Bangladesh, Palestine, US, Chile, Egypt, Algeria, Guatemala, and Namibia as well as from the Organizations of Islamic Cooperation (OKI) and the Arab League.

The ICJ also approved a late submission from Pakistan on November 2, 2023, to be added to the number of lawsuits.

ICJ's open hearing will start February 19, 2023 in The Hague, Netherlands.

Last December, the UN General Assembly issued a resolution seeking the opinion of the International Court on the legal consequences of Israel's illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories.

The resolution passed after being supported by 87 countries, while 26 countries refused, and 53 countries abstained.

About 666,000 settlers live in 145 settlements and 140 unlicensed outposts from the Israeli government, in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, the non-Israeli government organization, Peace Now said.

Under international law, all Jewish settlements in occupied territories are illegal.

The United Nations reported that since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, 820 Palestinians have been displaced in the West Bank. Attacks from Israeli settlers increased from an average of three to seven attacks per day.

Since then, more than 400 attacks have been carried out in the region, which claimed the lives of nine Palestinians.

Palestine emphasizes the continued expansion of illegal Jewish settlements as one of the biggest threats to the formation of the Palestinian state by the 1967 border, leading to divisions in the West Bank.

Armed Jewish travelers living in the region often attack Palestinians and force them to leave their homes.

Israeli and international human rights organizations have accused Israeli forces of protecting the settlers who carried out the attack.
