JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) Jasra Putra encourages parties involved and spreaders of self-harm content or injure themselves to be subject to legal sanctions.

"We see that the phenomenon of self-harm in children through social media invitations (social media) is a recurring phenomenon, the perpetrators are very far from legal sanctions," said Jasra when contacted, Tuesday, November 7, as reported by Antara.

Jasra said the self-harm trend on the TikTok social media platform threatens Indonesia's digital generation, which is mostly the millennial generation.

He said TikTok had registered as a company that organizes electronic systems (PSE). However, there needs to be supervision of things that have been regulated by the government, especially regarding child protection in the use of TikTok.

"What is difficult to control are things that are considered outside the regulations, but disrupt the growth and development of children. Such as the phenomenon of self-harm," said Jasra.

According to him, there are mental problems related to this TikTok trend, so managers and governments must limit children to protect them.

"I don't think there is any child protection on digital platforms that have been discussed, up to a technical level in enforcement like this. Or if it already exists, its partiality is still very weak," said Jasra.

Previously, eleven elementary school students in Situbondo, East Java, were desperate to injure their own hands using a GDA stick type medical device sold by a traveling merchant around the school.

Dozens of children who injured their own hands actually followed the trend on TikTok social media.

This incident was revealed when the teacher at the school found the arm of one of the students who was covered with unnatural scratches.

When asked by the teacher, the student admitted that he only followed the TikTok barcode trend of Korea.
