Denpasar Immigration Hands Over Chinese Citizens To The Prosecutor's Office For Forgery Of Mobile Phones

DENPASAR - Denpasar Immigration Office, Bali, handed over a foreign national (WNA) from China to the Denpasar District Attorney (Kejari) to be prosecuted in court regarding a cell phone forgery case.

"We have decided to continue the matter to the general criminal realm," said Denpasar Immigration Office Head Tedy Riyandi in Denpasar as reported by ANTARA, Friday, November 3.

The handover of a Chinese foreigner named Chen Yutong (CY) was carried out after the Denpasar District Attorney stated that the case file on the results of the CY investigation had been declared complete or P21 on October 25, 2023.

After the handover, CY was then detained at the Denpasar District Attorney.

He explained that CY was charged with Article 122 letter a of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration.

The article states that every foreigner who deliberately misuses or carries out activities that do not comply with the intended and purpose of granting the residence permit given, is sentenced to a maximum imprisonment of five years and a maximum fine of IDR 500 million.

Previously, the 50-year-old man was arrested in Jakarta on August 25, 2023 on the report of a mobile phone shop worker in Denpasar.

The CY from Zhejiang Province markets 10 smartphones, one of the well-known brands, but the engine in the cellphone uses another brand and is sold obliquely, at a price of IDR 5 million.

In carrying out his actions, he targeted one by one the credit and cell phone stores in Denpasar and deceived one cell phone counter worker.

Based on Immigration data, Chen entered Indonesia through Soekarno Hatta Airport in Jakarta on April 8, 2023.

He entered Indonesia using a B211A visit visa but it turned out that the perpetrator was selling fake cellphones.

Meanwhile, the perpetrator's residence permit expired on August 5, 2023 and has never extended his residence permit while in Indonesia.

While waiting for the handover to the Denpasar District Attorney, CY was temporarily detained in the Denpasar Immigration detention room.
