KPK Employees Not Responding To Calls For Investigation On Alleged SYL Extortion

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) employee did not fulfill the summons for an investigation by the Polda Metro Jaya regarding the alleged extortion case carried out by the head of the anti-corruption agency against former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo or SYL, Thursday, October 12, yesterday.

Director of Special Criminal Investigation of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Ade Safri Simanjuntak said the absence of the KPK employee was due to work constraints.

"One KPK employee who was summoned as a witness was asked for his statement before the investigators of the Corruption Sub-Directorate of the Ditreskrimsus Polda Metro Jaya was not present," Ade told reporters, Friday, October 13.

The problem with the work in question is that the KPK employee must participate in the activities that have been scheduled in the anti-corruption agency.

Through employees of the KPK Legal Bureau, witnesses wrote and asked for a reschedule. Thus, it is planned that the anti-corruption agency employee will be examined next week.

"The person concerned is for the examination schedule on Monday at 10.00 WIB," said Ade.

In handling this case, dozens of witnesses have been questioned. Some of them are SYL and the Semarang Police Chief Kombes Irwan Anwar.

"11 witnesses have been examined during the investigation," he said.

Then, in the investigation process, Polda Metro also explored the circulation of photos showing KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri, meeting with SYL.

The photos and meetings will be investigated as a result of recommendations from the case title process which was carried out on Friday, October 6, yesterday.

The investigation was carried out on the basis of alleged violation of Article 65 in conjunction with Article 36 of the KPK Law. Where, investigators are prohibited from dealing with parties who are litigating.

"There is a prohibition on direct or indirect contact with the suspect or other parties related to the handling of corruption crimes committed by the KPK for any reason," said Ade.

Meanwhile, in the circulating photo, Firli and Syahrul allegedly met at the badminton sports arena (gor). It is not clear when the meeting was.
