The Constitutional Court Holds A Trial On The Decision Of The Material Test On The Age Limit Of The Presidential And Vice Presidential Candidates Monday, October 16

JAKARTA - The Constitutional Court (MK) will read out the judicial review decision of Article 169 letter q of Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections (UU Pemilu) regarding the minimum age limit for presidential candidates (candidates) and vice presidential candidates (cawapres) on Monday, October 16.

"Yes, that's right (the reading of the verdict was held Monday, October 16, 2023)," said Head of the Legal Bureau of Administration and Administrative Affairs of the Constitutional Court Fajar Laksono as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, October 10.

Meanwhile, based on the official website of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia, it was recorded that the reading of the decisions of a number of judicial review cases would be held at the Constitutional Court building, Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Jakarta.

A number of cases that will be read out by the verdict are Case Number 29/PUU-XXI/2023. This case was filed on behalf of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) and also sued the same article. PSI in its petitum asked that the presidential and vice presidential age limit be changed to 35 years.

Then, Case Number 51/PUU-XXI/2023 with Garuda Party Chairperson Ahmad Ridha Sabana and Garuda Party DPP Secretary General Yohanna Murtika. They asked for the phrase in the article that was tested for material to be changed to a lowest 40 years old or experienced as regional head/deputy regional head.

Furthermore, Case Number 55/PUU-XXI/2023 submitted by the Mayor of Bukittinggi Erman Safar and the Deputy Regent of South Lampung Pandu Kesuma Dewangsa. In their petitum, they sued Article 169 letter q of the Election Law relating to the presidential and vice presidential age limit.

Next, Case Number 90/PUU-XXI/2023 with an Indonesian citizen applicant (WNI) named Almas Tsaqibbirru Re A. He requested that the nomination requirements for presidential and vice presidential candidates be changed to a minimum age of 40 years or experienced as regional heads, both at the provincial and district/city levels.

Then Case Number 91/PUU-XXI/2023 submitted by Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Laws student Arkaan Wahyu Re A. Basically, asking for the presidential and vice presidential age limit to be reduced to at least 21 years.

Then, Case Number 92/PUU-XXI/2023 was proposed by an Indonesian citizen named Melisa Mylitiachristi Tarandung. He requested that the age limit for the vice presidential candidate be changed to a minimum age of 25 years.

In addition to reading the verdict, the Constitutional Court will also hold a trial for expressing decisions/decisions for Case Number 105/PUU-XXI/2023. The case was filed by an Indonesian citizen named Soefianto Soetono and Imam Hermanda, requesting the age limit of the vice presidential candidate to 30 years.
