Sunday Morning, Jakarta Becomes The Second Most Polluted City In The World

JAKARTA - The city of Jakarta became the second-worst air quality area in the world, at 07.10 WIB based on the IQAir air quality monitoring site, Sunday morning, because it has an air quality index (AQI) figure of 170 or is categorized as unhealthy.

Launching Antara, the figure, below Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is in first place with the AQI number of 172.

After Jakarta, the city with the worst air quality was Delhi, India at 163, followed by Dhaka, Bangladesh at 161 and Then followed by Kuwait City, Kuwait at 158.

Meanwhile, the DKI Jakarta Environment Agency on the official website also reported that thoroughly the condition of air quality in this area since Saturday (7/10) at 15.00 WIB until Sunday morning at 07.00 WIB, the condition of air quality is also categorized as unhealthy.

The highest number of air pollution standard index (ISPU) per hour with a concentration of fine particles causing pollution (PM 2.5) of 131 in Lubang Buaya, while in other areas, the medium average is the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout (96), Jeruk Gardens (83), Kelapa Gading (97) and Jaga Karsa (83).

The air quality index in Jakarta is high because the current PM2.5 concentration is 18.4 times higher than the air quality guide value of the world health organization (WHO).

Previously, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) appealed to the public to wear masks if they were in locations with high air contamination levels.

"The public is also advised to always pay attention to air quality information, especially from the BMKG, KLHK, and the local Environment Agency as the authorized government agency," said Plt. BMKG Deputy for Climatology Ardhasena Sopahelihkan.
