Status 2 Subdistricts In Mataram NTB Watch Out For El Nino Impact, BPBD Asks Residents To Save Water

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) said that two sub-districts in Mataram City were set to be vigilant against the impact of El Nino. The sub-districts referred to are Mataram and Ampenan.

"The status of alert for El Nino's impact in the two sub-districts (Mataram and Ampenan-ed) is according to a report from the Mataram Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG)," said Head of BPBD Mataram City Mahfuddin Noor in Mataram, Thursday, September 21, confiscated by Antara.

He said the potential for vigilance against the impact of El Nino set by the BMKG on the two sub-districts was indeed the lowest level but various potential long droughts to lack of water discharge needed to be watched out for.

"Therefore, we are asked to be vigilant, be careful and pay close attention to the potential impact of El Nino, including the potential for fires. Not only for the two sub-districts but all residents in Mataram City," he said.

On the other hand, as a measure to anticipate the impact of El Nino, the community is also expected to be able to save on water and when the water discharge is reduced during the day, the community should be able to collect water at night.

Although based on BMKG information, it is predicted that by the end of September 2023 the rain will start to fall but with low intensity and long distances.

"Even until early October, BMKG said the intensity of rain was still predicted to be low," he said.

However, he continued, so far there have been no reports from the two sub-districts that have the status of being alert for the impact of El Nino which has suffered a significant drought.
