Indonesia Crisis Penghulu, Minister Of Religion Says It Takes 16 Thousand People

JAKARTA - Minister of Religion (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas stated, Indonesia is currently experiencing a penghulu power crisis. The number of existing penghulus is considered incomparable to the needs of the community. Nationally, Indonesia needs as many as 16,263 penghulu, but only 9,054 penghulu are available. "We are currently facing a penghulu crisis. We have coordinated to add the penghulu profession," Yaqut said in his statement, Wednesday, September 13. Yaqut explained, currently there are only 9,054 penghulus in Indonesia, while the average wedding event reaches 2 million each year. "Ideally there are 16,000 penghulus, considering that wedding events are around 2 million per year. The difference in need is too big. We will ask for an addition," he explained. According to Yaqut, the Ministry of Religion is fighting for the formation of functional power of the penghulu to the Ministry of Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform (Ministry of PAN and RB) so that it can be fulfilled. "The staff status. This is what we are still finalizing with Kemenpan and RB so that later there will be a recruitment of penghulu to meet the needs," he said.

Yaqut added that a penghulu also includes state civil servants (ASN) such as in ministries/agencies. Moreover, the role of penghulu is very important in maintaining family resilience. "In addition to getting married, they also provide consultations, guidance, guidance to brides," he concluded.
