Maros, Jeneponto And Makassar Have Drought Emergency Response Status

MAKASSAR - Three areas in South Sulawesi have imposed drought emergency response status, namely Makassar City, Maros Regency, and Jeneponto Regency.

Acting Governor of South Sulawesi Bahtiar Baharuddin supports the district and city governments to impose a drought emergency response status.

"I agree with that. This is the follow-up result of our meeting yesterday," he said referring to a meeting held with regents and mayors in South Sulawesi reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, September 12.

Bahtiar said the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) coordinated with relevant government agencies to implement weather modification technology to overcome drought.

According to him, the weather modification technology or artificial rain is sought to be applied in areas with the emergency response status of drought and areas that are indicated to experience drought such as Bone, Soppeng, Bulukumba, Maros, and Sidrap.

"Almost all of Sulawesi (affected by drought) due to El Nino. So we have to anticipate this," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of BPBD for South Sulawesi Province, Amson Paddolom, said that the rain had not been rain for 45 days in three areas which imposed a drought emergency response status.

"So it is in the extreme (dry) area," he said.

BPBD South Sulawesi in accordance with the direction of the Governor in coordination with the National Counterfeiting Agency (BNPB) to implement weather modification technology.

"We are coordinating with BNPB to carry out weather modification technology efforts. We have made the letter and later we will confirm with BNPB how (the mechanism)," said Amson.
