WEST BANDUNG - The West Java Provincial Government has added a waste emergency zone at the Sarimukti TPA, West Bandung, with a capacity of 23,000 tons from the previous emergency zone of 8,000 tons.

Acting Governor of West Java Bey Sapi Machmudin revealed that this additional capacity is a step in handling waste in Greater Bandung which is starting to mount, because the Sarimukti TPA fire is not over yet.

"There is an addition by DLH, a capacity of 23,000 tons that can be filled, but please the regencies and cities related to waste disposal here to reduce their waste, which has become the commitment of regional heads," said Bey in Sarimukti, Cipat, West Bandung Regency. reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, September 12.

Bey asked regional heads in four areas of Greater Bandung, namely Bandung City, Cimahi City, Bandung Regency and West Bandung Regency to socialize that the waste to be brought to the Sarimukti TPA is dry waste.

"So, please what is sent here is not organic waste, so it reduces too. Don't just think about garbage in the four accumulating areas, but also how to reduce it," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the West Java Environment Agency (DLH) Prima Mayaningtias explained that the new emergency zone is in the same area as the existing Sarimukti TPA.

"The first emergency zone (capacity) is 8,000 tons, plus we have 23,000 tons on land with a total of 0.9 hectares," said Prima at TPA Sarimukti.

Prima said the capacity of 23,000 tons or 5,833 village waste was divided into four regions, namely Bandung City, West Bandung Regency, Bandung Regency, and Cimahi City with adjusted quotas.

As for the waste added quota, Bandung City received 4,000 ritase, Bandung Regency 770 ritase, West Bandung Regency (KBB) 455 ritase, and Cimahi City 608 ritase.

Because it is still not normal to transport waste to the Sarimukti TPA, Prima asked that the quota owned by each city/district needs to be saved, because this quota will be valid until the Sarimukti TPA fire is completely extinguished and its operations return to normal or there is a new zone that is opened.

"For the new zone, BPBD officers say it's safe, then I want to open it again, if we don't dare. So, the quota should not be eliminated all. There must be a reduction from districts or cities, that's what must be done," he said.
