South Kalimantan Police Investigate Hacking Customer Accounts Of IDR 1.5 Billion

BANJARMASIN - The South Kalimantan Regional Police (Polda Kalsel) conducted an investigation into the alleged hacking of the account of an Indonesian People's Bank (BRI) customer from Martapura, Banjar Regency named Muhammad worth Rp. 1.5 billion.

"We are still investigating, the bank is being summoned and the reporter has been investigated," said Director of Special Criminal Investigation at the South Kalimantan Police, Kombes Suhasto in Banjarmasin, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, September 11.

According to Suhasto, his party is trying their best to be able to uncover the case as soon as possible.

"All possible indications of the modus operandi we are investigating to be able to uncover this case," he said.

Temporary suspicion, Suhasto is worried that the victim will click on or install the Android Package Kit (APK) file so that personal data and accounts can be hacked by the perpetrators.

APK (Android Package Kit) is a file format for applications used in the Android operating system.

In addition to being able to be downloaded through the Google Play Store, APK can also be opened manually but has a high risk because not all sources are official and can contain malware or a software virus.

The victim is known to admit that the money in his account disappeared on September 3, 2023 when he wanted to make a transaction.

The victim then checked the transfer list through the mobile banking application, it turned out that there were 42 transactions to an unknown account.

Surprisingly, even though the transaction limit for victims is only Rp. 500 million, the burglar can make transactions of up to Rp. 1.5 billion.

At that time, he immediately called the BRI call center and asked that the account number be blocked to secure the remaining balance.
