Reducing Jakarta Air Pollution, DKI Regional Secretary Asks Residents To Expand Streets

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Regional Secretary Joko Agus Setyono issued Regional Secretary Instruction Number 66 of 2023 concerning Efforts to Accelerate the Decline in the Air Pollution Rate of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Secretary.

In this Isekda, Joko gave a number of instructions to all regional apparatus in an effort to control air pollution.

The public is also advised to help fight air pollution. One way, Joko mentioned, is by increasing walking in traveling and reducing the use of private vehicles.

"We urge the public to participate in efforts to accelerate the reduction in air pollution levels by implementing clean and healthy living behavior and like to walk," Joko said, quoted on Tuesday, September 5.

Then, Joko also asked the public to protect themselves from exposure to pollutants by wearing masks and reducing outdoor activities.

On the other hand, residents of the capital city are also advised to help reduce emissions by using public transportation, saving energy, testing vehicle emissions and using environmentally friendly fuels.

"We also recommend the community to grow trees and plants in their respective environments," he said.

Furthermore, Joko explained, community participation is very important to accelerate the government's efforts to reduce air pollution.

For this reason, Joko said that he had coordinated with the mayors, regents, and the smallest government units, namely the sub-district and village heads.

The mayors and regents were instructed to coordinate the sub-district and village heads, then report the results of their implementation regularly every two weeks through the Assistant for Development and Environment of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Secretary.

Then, urge the sub-district heads to assign sub-district elements to coordinate, socialize, assist, monitor implementation, and report the results regularly every two weeks to the mayor or regent.

"And the village heads should assign elements of the village, RT, RW to coordinate in order to give an appeal to the community to work hand in hand in an effort to reduce pollution. This is a joint work that needs to be taken seriously by all parties," he concluded.
