KLHK Asks Corporates To Prevent Forest And Land Fires

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) appealed to all corporations to protect their respective lands so as not to catch fire considering that they have now entered the peak of the dry season.

"We appeal to all corporations responsible for activities to be careful and ensure that forest and land fires do not occur," said Director General of Environmental and Forestry Law Enforcement of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Ratio Ridho Sani, as reported by ANTARA, Friday, August 18.

The ratio states that if there is a very wide forest and land fire, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry is ready to take legal action, including civil and criminal action to ensnare the company that set fire.

From January to August 2023, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry has sent a warning letter to 99 corporations indicating a hot spot with a confidence level of above 79 percent.

The Ministry of Environment and Forestry works 24 non-stop monitoring through various satellites to detect hotspots, especially those on concession land.

"We can take firm action from civil to criminal. We have formed a task force for integrated law enforcement against forest and land fires in Indonesia," said Rasio.

From 2015 to August 2023, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry has sued 22 companies that caused forest and land fires. Of the 22 companies sued, as many as 14 companies have permanent legal force or inkracht van gewijsde.

The total value of the decisions of the 14 corporations is IDR 5.60 trillion, consisting of seven companies in the execution process amounting to IDR 3.05 trillion and seven companies preparing for execution amounting to IDR 2.55 trillion.
