SURABAYA - The Surabaya Research Syndicate (SRS) institution declared Sandiaga Uno's name the most ideal figure in the eyes of the people of East Java as a vice presidential candidate for Ganjar Pranowo in the 2024 presidential election (Pilpres).

SRS Research Director Edwin Abdul said there were 19.2 percent of respondents in East Java who wanted Sandiaga Uno to become a vice presidential candidate to pair up with presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo.

"The results of the SRS survey place Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno as the ideal and most appropriate vice presidential candidate to accompany Ganjar Pranowo in the 2024 presidential election," Edwin said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 15.

The high desire of the people of East Java is due to Sandiaga Uno being part of the United Development Party (PPP), with a strategic position as Chairman of the Election Winning Body (Bappilu).

Seeing this position, according to him, Sandiaga became a religious representation, thus creating an interest from the people of East Java to encourage the pair with Ganjar Pranowo who was promoted by the PDI-P and became a nationalist representative.

He also assessed that the religious nationalist pair was well received by the people of East Java, especially in the local area, which was also dominated by Nahdliyin residents.

"The only parliamentary party outside the PDI-P that supports Ganjar is PPP, officially has a coalition with PDIP," he said.

"PPP offers Sandiaga as a vice presidential candidate, Sandiaga automatically has the most opportunity to become a vice presidential candidate for Ganjar," he added.

Edwin called Sandiaga's position as a potential candidate as a companion to Ganjar Pranowo around 19.2 percent, followed by Ridwan Kamil with a percentage of 15.4 percent, Erick Thohir 11.5 percent, and Susi Pujiastuti 10.8 percent.

Furthermore, Yunny Wahid 8.9 percent, Andika Perkasa 4.2 percent, Puan Maharani 3.9 percent, Basuki Hadimuljono 3.9 percent, Nassarudin Umar 2.8 percent, and 16.6 percent have not voted

SRS who are members of the Indonesian Public Opinion Survey Association (ASOPI) conducted the survey on August 2-11, 2023 in 38 districts and cities in East Java involving 1,000 respondents.

The sampling method is carried out bysamaltistage random sampling with a margin of error of 3.1 percent and a confidence level of 95 percent. The selected respondents consist of 50 percent of men and 50 percent of women with a random quality control of 20 percent.
