Russia Claims To Shoot Down Two Ukrainian Drones Near Moscow, Third Attack In A Week

JAKARTA - Russia claims to have shot down two Ukrainian drones trying to approach Moscow, a third attack in the past week against the capital, with authorities reporting no casualties as a result of the incident.

"Two fighter drones tried to fly into the city. Both were shot down by an air defense system, one in the Domodedovo area, and the other around Jalan Raya Minskoye," Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin explained, launching TASS August 9.

"No injuries were reported," Sobyanin continued in a post on his Telegram channel.

The same report was also submitted by the Russian Ministry of Defense, saying it was a terrorist attack carried out by Kyiv.

"The Kyiv regime's efforts to carry out terrorist attacks with unmanned aerial vehicles over the Moscow Region were successfully thwarted at night," the report said.

Citing The National News, this attack was the third attack on Moscow within a week, after previously Ukrainian drones were brought down on Sundays and Mondays, according to Russian officials.

Moscow was previously rarely a target during the conflict in Ukraine, until several attacks this year.

Last Thursday, Russia's Defense Ministry said it had brought down seven drones in the Kaluga region, less than 200 kilometers southwest of Moscow.

Earlier this month, an office block in the capital's main business district was hit twice in a few days by debris from a downed drone strike.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned on July 30 that the 'war' would come to Russia, with "symbolic centers and military bases" in the country being targeted.
