Bekasi Prosecutor's Office Forcibly Picks Up Bulldozer Corruption Prisoners, Directly Throws Him In Prison

BEKASI - The District Attorney's Office (Kejari) of Bekasi Regency, West Java, forcibly picked up the convict in the case of corruption in heavy-buldozer equipment at the Environment Agency, Soni Petrus, for not fulfilling the summons of the public prosecutor's team (JPU).

"The prosecutor's team forcibly picked him up because previously there had been a proper summons to the convict Soni Petrus. However, the convict did not have good intentions to surrender himself to the Bekasi District Attorney," said Head of the Intelligence Section of the Bekasi District Attorney's Office Rahmadhy Seno Lumakso as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 8.

The forced pick-up was carried out at Soni's residence, North Jakarta on Monday (7/8/2023) at around 00.30 in the morning. Based on information, Soni had tried to travel to a number of cities to avoid being picked up from the prosecutor's office. However, the attempt to escape was thwarted.

"The forced pick-up of the convict is a form of the commitment of the Bekasi District Attorney in completing the handling of corruption cases in a professional and comprehensive manner," he said.

SoniPetrus is the last convict to be executed by the prosecutor's office in this corruption case in the procurement of the bulker heavy equipment. Previously, the prosecutor's office had already executed Dody Agus Suprianto, an echelon three official at the Bekasi Regency Government.

The execution of Soni was based on the decision of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia Number 1214K/Pid.Sus/2023 dated May 17, 2023. In this decision, Soni was declared legally and convincingly guilty of committing a criminal act of corruption which was carried out jointly as charged in the primary indictment.

Soni received a prison sentence of four years and a fine of Rp. 200 million on the condition that if the fine is not paid, it will be replaced with imprisonment for four months.

In addition, the convict Soni was sentenced to an additional sentence in the form of the obligation to pay compensation of Rp900 million. If the replacement money is not paid within one month after the decision has permanent legal force, the defendant's property will be confiscated and auctioned off to pay the replacement money payment.

"If the defendant does not have sufficient assets to pay off the replacement money, then he will be replaced with imprisonment for two years," said Seno.

Furthermore, the Bekasi District Attorney General's Team executed the convict Soni Petrus at the Class II A Prison in Cikarang to serve a prison sentence.

Previously, the convicts Soni Petrus and Dody Agus Suprianto were defendants in a corruption case in the procurement of heavygrader equipment (buldozer) at the Bekasi Regency Environment Service for the 2019 fiscal year. The procurement was intended to help manage waste at the Burangkeng Final Disposal Site (TPA).

However, in planning the program, the prosecutor's office found that the alleged mark up of the purchase price was too high, causing a loss to the state. The investigation of the case was carried out from 2021 until it went up to trial.
