Five People Killed by Missile Attack on Pokrovsk, President Zelensky: We Must Stop Russian Terror

JAKARTA - At least five people have been killed and more than two dozen others injured after Russian missiles hit a residential building in Pokrovsk, eastern Donetsk, said Ukraine's Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko.

Among the injured were 19 police officers, five rescue workers, and a child, Klymenko said in a Telegram message.

"The ruins of the building are being cleared," he said, citing CNN, August 8.

"Search and rescue operations are underway. We are clearing the rubble, saving people from Russian terror," Klymenko said.

According to Klymenko, four civilians were killed in the first attack and a Donetsk emergency worker died in the second.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia had launched two missiles that hit a residential building in the city.

A video accompanying his post shows residents and emergency teams trying to clear some of the rubble. A person on a stretcher being transferred to an ambulance.

President Zelensky vowed to hold Russia responsible for the attack.

"We must stop the Russian terror. Everyone who fought for the independence of Ukraine is saving lives. Everyone in the world who is helping Ukraine will defeat the terrorists with us," Zelensky said.

"Russia will be held accountable for everything it has done in this terrible war," he added.
