In The Last 6 Months, 28 Cases Of Child Sexual Violence Occurred In Pekanbaru

PeKANBARU - The Technical Implementation Unit for the Protection of Women and Children (PPA) Pekanbaru City, Riau Province, handled 79 cases of child abuse from January to June 2023 and 28 of them were sexual violence.

Head of the Pekanbaru City Office of Women's Empowerment, Child Protection, and Community Empowerment (DP3APM), Chairani, said that the case of child sexual violence is quite high because currently the victim is no longer afraid to report sexual violence experienced.

"They are not afraid to report when they become victims of sexual violence, especially since they can come directly to the police station or to the UPT PPA," said Chairani, quoted by ANTARA, July 28.

Chairani assessed that the family is currently more open so they are no longer afraid to report if their child becomes a victim of violence so that they are ready to accept the report.

His party, he continued, is ready to follow up on reports that go to the Pekanbaru City PPA UPT. Moreover, there are many victims who are still students.

"We invite the public not to be afraid to report, when there are children who become victims of violence," he said.

Chairani added that her party received reports of a number of other cases. There are 26 cases of child rights, 11 cases of child physical violence, eight cases of psychological violence, six cases of child custody, and one case of child in conflict with the law.
