BMKG Asks Central Kalimantan Residents To Be Alert To Potential Tornadoes In The Next Week

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Tjilik Riwut Palangka Raya asked people in Central Kalimantan Province (Kalteng) to be aware of the potential for local rain accompanied by tornadoes.

"Over the coming week, be aware of the potential for rain to be local with a short duration that can be accompanied by strong winds or tornadoes in the Central Kalimantan region," said BMKG forecaster Tjilik Riwut Palangka Raya, Renianata in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan, Wednesday, July 26, quoted by Antara.

BMKG appealed to the people in Central Kalimantan to be careful of the impact of the disaster.

He added, in general, the weather conditions in Central Kalimantan are cloudy, except in the northern part which is estimated to have the potential for light rain.

"The air temperature ranges from 24'34 degrees Celsius. The humidity ranges from 50'95 percent. The wind generally blows from the southeast "southwest at speeds ranging from 10'20 kilometers per hour," said Renianata.

This condition must also make the public increasingly aware of the potential for puddles, floods, flash floods, landslides and fallen trees due to weather conditions.

His party periodically also always coordinates with local governments and other related parties regarding the potential and development of weather in Central Kalimantan. The goal is that all people can anticipate disasters due to weather changes.

"If you look at this phenomenon, people should be vigilant and immediately look for a shady place but not under trees," he said.

When heavy rains accompanied by strong winds and lightning occur, people are asked to immediately find safe shelters such as in houses or buildings.

"Stay away from billboards or billboards, large trees and don't be in the field or open places to avoid lightning strikes or falling trees, billboards and the like. Take shelter in permanent buildings," he said.
